Admiral T. Joseph Lopez
has worked in executive positions in the private sector following a
distinguished 40 year Navy career, culminating in his service as Commander in
Chief, U.S. Naval Forces, Europe and Commander in Chief, Allied Forces, Southern
Europe. He is one of two officers in Navy history to rise to the rank of four
stars after direct commissioning from enlisted service. He has served in ship
and shore assignments in Vietnam, the Persian Gulf, and the Balkan conflicts.
Admiral Lopez’s naval career included tours as Commander-in-Chief of U.S. Naval
Forces Europe and Commander-in-Chief Allied Forces, Southern Europe from 1996-
1998. In 1996, he commanded all U.S. and Allied Bosnia Peace Keeping Forces;
from 1994-1996, he served as Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Resources,
Warfare Requirements and Assessments; Commander of the U.S. Sixth Fleet in
1992-1993; and Senior Military Assistant to the Secretary of Defense from
1990-1992.
