UNITS OF CTG 194.4

PARTICIPATING IN OPERATION TRAN HUNG DAO

for services as set forth in the following

CITATION:

For exceptionally meritorious service from 8 February to 31 March 1969 during operations against the enemy in the Republic of Vietnam. Displaying outstanding determination, perseverance, and resourcefulness, the United States and Vietnamese Navy personnel of CTG 194.4 involved in Operation TRAN HUNG DAO along the Vinh Te Canal prosecuted an aggressive and resolute interdictive campaign which struck at the very frontier of the enemy’s Cambodian sanctuary. The myriad array of assembled riverine and coastal forces, together with numerous special warfare units, executed Operation TRAN HUNG DAO with a professionalism which yielded immediate success. Contending with the constant threat of enemy mining attempts, and combatting intense rocket and automatic-weapons fire at point-blank range, task-group personnel consistently demonstrated a high degree of courage and aggressiveness. In the end, enemy infiltration was significantly diminished and pacification of the area achieved previously unknown success. The bold resolution and courageous initiative exhibited by the units of CTG 194.4 participating in Operation TRAN HUNG DAO reflect great credit upon themselves and the naval service.
