CHIEF OF NAVAL OPERATIONS
The Secretary of the Navy takes pleasure in presenting the
MERITORIOUS UNIT COMMENDATION to
USS MOUNT KATMAI (AE-16)

for service as set forth in the following citation:

For meritorious service from 16 November 1969 to 19 June 1970 in direct support of United States SEVENTH Fleet combat operations in Southeast Asia. USS MOUNT KATMAI distinguished herself by providing outstanding mobile logistic support to naval units engaged in combat operations against enemy forces in the Republic of Vietnam, contributing materially to the success of these operations by transferring over 11,000 tons of ammunition to destroyer, cruiser, and attack carrier units during seventy-six underway replenishments. Through their continuous display of professionalism, determination, and resourcefulness, the officers and men of USS MOUNT KATMAI contributed immeasurably to the successful accomplishment of the United States mission in Southeast Asia. Their perseverance and unfailing devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
